STANFORD AT CALIFORNIA - PREDICTION
This is a tough game to call (on at 6:30 on Fox Sports national). On the one hand, Ken Pomeroy predicts a two-point Cal victory. On the other hand, numbers can be misleading. It's hard for us to imagine how the Bears can cope with two healthy Lopez brothers inside and on the glass. At the same time, Stanford has difficulties of its own on the defensive end. Their height discourages penetration and inside scoring, but the Cardinal have been vulnerable to teams with strong perimeter games. If we knew that Ubaka and Vierneisel would be at 100%, we'd probably pick the Bears. Ubaka should be ready to go, but Vierneisel is still hobbled with a bad ankle and won't play much (if at all). Given this, we're forced to concede the strong possibility of a season split with our hated rivals. Prove us wrong, you Bears!
Stanford 76 California 74

If you weren't scoreboard watching, you probably missed it, but Kansas State (you'll you remember we destroyed in Haas) just beat Texas and all-everything freshman Kevin Durant in Austin (I'm in Houston for a week). So that win becomes a bit more impressive.
Huge win for the RPI. We're not RPI watching, though, until we win a few more games. BTW, have you seen Durant play? Best freshman I've seen in a long time.
Durant? Forget freshman (I think he's the best I've seen since 'Melo) - he's the best college basketball player I've seen in a long time.
Kevin Garnett + Boris Diaw + the good parts of Lamar Odom's game
