CALIFORNIA 78 KANSAS STATE 48
OK, we're officially excited about Cal's basketball team. In the words of Bush 43, that was a thumpin'.Cal ran pretty successfully, and played very efficiently on offense. The big men were quite good, especially Hardin (12 points, 12 boards). We were shocked, frankly. K-State is an inefficient bunch of good athletes, but Cal looked to be not only better prepared but more athletic than the Wildcats. Didn't expect that.
On to Nevada and Nick Fazekas on Sunday. GO BEARS!

3 great things about last night:
1. We got to clear the bench. All 3? Walk-ons got in the game, 2 of the 3 got to launch a shot.
2. K-State had a walk-on with a GREAT mohawk. He got in the game too.
3. We are B-A-L-A-N-C-E-D. But still paper thin up front.
It's still early, to be sure, but you have to be impressed with the offensive balance and overall cohesive team play. This strikes me as exactly the kind of team that Ben Braun has always wanted--and the kind I've long been waiting for. Too often during the Braun era the Bears have been one-dimensional, and they went only as far as that one guy (Leon Powe, Ed Gray, et al.) could take them. Being able to consistently make 3s--and free throws!--sure doesn't hurt either. Not just on the scoreboard, that really was one of the more attractive brands of basketball I've watched in a long while. Go Bears!!
