THE GOLDEN GOOSE
Ayinde Ubaka calls him the Golden Goose. That works for me.
6'10" Freshman Ryan Anderson led the Bears with 20 points and 8 rebounds, and Cal opened things with a 60-47 win over Utah Valley State. If Anderson can provide a legitimate inside/outside threat at the four, it could make Ben Ball a lot more interesting. We shot lousy in the first half last night, but we didn't allow UVSC a point for the first ten minutes of the game.
San Diego State on Saturday - we'll have something up tomorrow on what should be a much better measuring stick for the Bears.

Some thoughts:
1. We are WOEFULLY thin on the front line. I went to the game last night (first game ever in Haas! I was overseas or in Texas for the 9 years) and aside from DeVon and Anderson, we have zero size. And when Hardin inevitably gets into foul trouble - we might be in trouble ourselves.
2. Anderson is the real deal. I think he's already better than Tamir (who he was compared to by others) - maybe not expecting 19 every game, but he's one of the those guys who just *knows* how to play basketball. You can see it - he runs to the right spots on the floor, he's thinking two moves ahead. I really like him.
3. Sean Lampley was there last night - too bad he's not making money in Europe or China or the Philippines.
4. In the blogosphere, Celtic fans are clamoring for more of the Show.
We really need another big. This will be an interesting team to watch, though.
I thought Lampley was playing somewhere outside the US?
Lamp was in Indiana's training camp - so maybe his agent is looking for a job for him overseas right now (hopefully).
